April is Earth Month at NC State

April ushers in signs of spring and NC State’s Earth Month, the university’s annual focus on the planet and sustainability.

NC State Earth Month features more than 31 sustainability-related events, including service opportunities, fairs, workshops and outdoor activities.

The celebrations kick off Friday, April 1 with the Wolfpack Initiative for Sustainability and Health Festival on Stafford Commons from 3 pm until 6 pm. Hosted by the Inter-Residence Council at NC State, the event features a clothing exchange in partnership with the GLBT Center, sustainable student organizations, free reusable totes and Kona Ice.

Earth Month’s signature event, Earth Fair, is set for Wednesday, April 6 from 11 am until 2 pm on Stafford Commons. A long-standing campus tradition, Earth Fair returns after a two-year hiatus and features electric vehicle demos, interactive activities and information from nearly 60 sustainability-related organizations. In case of bad weather, the rain date for this event is April 13 at the same time and location.

Earth Month also includes the Celebration of NC State Sustainability on April 19 from 9 am until 10:30 am in Talley Student Union. This annual event honors the people, projects and progress that advance sustainability at NC State. Winners of the NC State Sustainability Awards and NC State Sustainability Fund grant recipients will be announced.

Other Earth Month events focus on various aspects of sustainability, including the environment and natural resources, business and social impact. Many events are free and on campus but may require advance registration. Learn more at http://go.ncsu.edu/earthmonth.

Hosted by NC State’s Sustainability Council and University Sustainability Office, Earth Month aims to raise awareness about sustainability and opportunities to contribute toward a more sustainable future.
