You’re Packed, Now Move On In: Tips for Campus Move-In Day

This post has been updated for accuracy and comprehensiveness on July 19, 2022.

Welcome (or welcome back), Pack. If you’re living on campus this semester, residence hall move-in is just around the corner. So, we’ve compiled some helpful tips to make your arrival as smooth as possible.

The When and Where. Note the residence hall check-in hours and parking information.

Save Your Pennies. As you’re packing up, resist the urge to overbuy. Purchase only what you need, which saves money and reduces waste at the end of the school year. And if there’s something you can pick up secondhand at a thrift store, then why not cash in on these bargains? Visit go.ncsu.edu/PackSmart for more sustainable move-in tips.

moveinReduce Your Waste. Break down and flatten empty cardboard boxes and put them in a blue dumpster nearby your residence hall. Toss paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, magazine and newspapers in the blue recycling bins. And if you have any other waste, toss it in a gray waste-to-landfill dumpster.

Pack Up the Plastic Bags. Plastic bags cannot be recycled in standard recycling bins or dumpsters. Rather, drop them off at a local grocery store or at the Talley Student Union information desk for recycling. In the future, choose reusables to avoid plastic waste.

Ask the Experts. Volunteers and student residence advisors will be circulating throughout move-in times to help answer questions. Bonus: Greek Life volunteers can help you breakdown and flatten cardboard boxes for recycling.

May the skies be clear and the air cool come move-in day. See you on campus soon!
