App-based contest energizes Energy Action Month at NC State

Throughout the month of October, NC State students, faculty and staff can hit the switch, pull the plug and power down electronics to save energy and win prizes.

Using Joulebug, a free mobile app available for Android and Apple smartphones, the campus community can collect pins and badges for energy-saving actions. All the while, Joulebug keeps score, allowing you to compete against your friends on social media and earn points toward entry into a grand prize drawing. NC State users who earn 300 energy points by Oct. 31 will be entered in a drawing to win prizes including a solar backpack, an energy savings kit of nearly a dozen CFL light bulbs and gift cards.

Download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play while you’re on campus (you can download it off campus, but you can’t start collecting points toward the competition until you’ve used the app at least once on campus). Then, follow the leaderboard and play to save energy and win.
