NCSU will participate in Recyclemania 2009

Last year NC State recycled around 220 tons of recyclables for the duration of the competition which runs from January 18th to March 28th.  The competition called Recyclemania is a ten week long competition where colleges and universities compete to see who can recycle the most waste such as cardboard, bottles, cans, and paper.  So far this year there are already 130 colleges and universities signed up to participate.  This year NC State wants to recycle more than in 2008, and hopefully rank among one of the top universities in the nation in one of the many categories of the competition.  The categories include most recyclables per capita, largest total amount of recyclables, least amount of waste, etc. For more information on Recyclemania go to www.recyclemania.com.

The Inter-Residence Council honors People Being Sustainable

The Inter-Residence Council Sustainability Committee has begun an initiative on campus to encourage the recognition and spread of sustainable activities.  Having been started in October, the “People Being Sustainable” form exists as a way for students to nominate themselves and each other to be recognized within the campus community as a contributor to the sustainability movement.  Students who are nominated each month for this honor have a chance to be rewarded for their efforts with an exclusive “Sustainability” T-shirt designed by the IRC Sustainability Committee, as well as an invitation to an end-of-the-year party held in their honor.

Each month, IRC Sustainability Committee selects those among the nominees whose actions go above and beyond the common activities one associates with being sustainable.  The Inter-Residence Council Sustainability Committee believes it to be of the utmost importance to honor and recognize these students whose actions expand and promote the message of sustainability on and off campus.

To nominate yourself or someone you know for the “People Being Sustainable” honor, visit the Inter-Residence Council website.  The form can be found at http://www.ncsu.edu/irc/hcaffairs.  Upon downloading and filling out this form, it can be sent via email to irc@ncsu.edu.
