Sustainable Cities Research Consortium

As the population of our world grows, so does the size of cities. This unprecedented growth creates resource demands and ecological impacts that few cities are equipped to face. An interdisciplinary group of NC State faculty are collaborating to address the grand challenges facing the cities of the world: namely, the way our cities grow, change and remain viable.

Located in Raleigh-Durham – one of the nation’s fastest growing areas – NC State is engaged in research aimed at creating healthier and more sustainable urban environments. This consortium of NC State faculty is uniquely equipped to explore:

  • Restoration and improvement of urban infrastructure
  • Clean energy in cities
  • Vibrant urban schools
  • Urban ecology
  • Sustainable transportation
  • Greyfield redevelopment
  • Safety and security
  • Health and wellbeing of urban residents
