Meet the New NC State Stewards

NC State Stewards are sustainability student leaders charged with creating sustainability  programs and initiatives on campus. This semester, the NC State Stewards welcome 8 new student leaders to their ranks. The new members will help bolster efforts in the areas of waste reduction, energy, outreach, sustainable agriculture and equity. 

Meet the Stewards

Miranda Olson

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Miranda Olson is a sophomore studying Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Miranda is most interested in benefit corporations and environmental sustainability in both food production and renewable energy. Sustainability is important to her because she believes it is not only going to be a massive part of business in the future but it also has to be. Miranda hopes to work on responsible consumption and production of products and services. Fun fact: At her local Panera Bread, Miranda is known as the environmental captain for trying to implement proper recycling.

Daniel Ma

Daniel Ma is from Cary, N.C. His major is Industrial Design and Supply Chain Management. In sustainability, Danile Ma is passionate about plastic waste reduction and circular product cycles. Fun fact: Daniel aspires to work for Lenovo. 

Amanda McCloskey

Amanda McCloskey of Waxhaw, N.C., is a junior in Business Administration with a Human Resources concentration and a minor in Agricultural Business Management and Economics. Amanda has always had a love of nature ever since childhood. Now, she is exploring her passion for sustainability and environmental justice. Since coming to NC State, she has spent her free time volunteering, studying and organizing events all in the name of sustainability. 

Anthony Medeiros

Anthony Medeiros is a sophomore from Chesapeake, Va. He is majoring in business administration with an intent to concentrate in entrepreneurship. Anthony is passionate about how everyday decisions impact the health of our oceans. Anthony wants to influence others to become more sustainability-minded because he believes that small changes in daily habits really do make a difference. When Anthony is not studying or volunteering with a student organization, he likes traveling to the coast.

Daniel Richardson

Daniel Richardson is a senior from Rocky Mount, N.C., studying paper science and engineering.  The area of sustainability he’s most passionate about is creating useful products from materials that are sourced from renewable resources.  In a world where sustainable initiatives can be viewed as costly and unnecessary, Daniel loves to explore ways to preserve our environment for the years to come.  In his free time he likes to grill, enjoy nature and has recently started pursuing music production as a hobby.

Princess Mutasa

Princess calls Raleigh, N.C., home. Her major is environmental technology and management, and her sustainability passion is teaching the message of sustainability to all types of people. She wants to demonstrate that the environment is for everyone. Fun fact: Princess was born in Zimbabwe.

Sindhu Polavaram

Sindhu Polavaram was born and raised in Cary, N.C. At NC State, she is majoring in Spanish and Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Sustainable Engineering, Energy and Environment. In her chemical engineering career, she hopes to work with developing more efficient and effective renewable energy systems. Fun fact: Sindhu speaks four languages.

Jaeleen Mendoza

Jaeleen Mendoza was born in Santa Ana, Calif., but grew up in the small town of Pfafftown, N.C. She is a senior double majoring in Communication Media and International Studies (with a concentration in Global Sustainability). She’s also minoring in Italian. Her passion for sustainability stemmed from being part of EcoVillage Living and Learning Village her first two years at NC State. Since then, she has worked toward living a more sustainable lifestyle. She also works for the NC State Waste Reduction and Recycling Office. Fun fact: Jaeleen is currently studying in Milan, Italy, where she hopes to learn more Italian culture and language.
