Carrying Water for a Cause

Since NC State alum Doc Hendley founded Wine to Water in 2004, the Boone-based nonprofit organization has provided clean water for more than 600,000 people in 25 countries.

Now the NC State and Raleigh chapters of the organization are teaming up to sponsor Wine to Water’s fourth-annual Water Walk, which will take place Sunday, March 26, 1-3 p.m. on the Oval on NC State’s Centennial Campus.

Worldwide about 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation, approximately 663 million people lack access to clean drinking water and a child dies every 90 seconds from a water-related illness.

From a global perspective, the average woman carries about 40 pounds of water nearly 6 kilometers every day to supply water for her family and community.

Come take a walk in these shoes and see how quickly you can carry 5 liters of water for 1 mile — while keeping all the water in your bucket. The Water Walk will feature prizes, snacks and other interactive activities, and all proceeds support the efforts of Wine to Water’s NC State chapter to help provide clean water around the world.

You can register for the Water Walk online.
