State students display unique way of growing food October 18, 2016 mesthill NC State alum and staff member Paul Begue shows the root structure of plants grown hydroponically in the university’s aquaponics demonstration facility off Lake Wheeler Road. Begue manages the greenhouse-based system, which will involve up to 6,000 fish supplying nutrients for a 7,000-gallon deep-bed hydroponics system growing lettuce and other leafy greens. Harvested plants are available for purchase at NC State’s weekly Campus Farmer’s Market and also by Raleigh-based Endless Sun Produce.
