Athletics Adds Sustainability Intern, Events

NC State Athletics has recently transformed its Sustainable Wolfpack initiative to be more impactful than ever.

Building on its success in reducing landfill waste at home games and at select sporting venues, Athletics has this season added new sustainability-themed events, as well as hired a student intern to focus on sustainability.

Sustainability-Themed Games

Every Wolfpack sport will have at least one sustainability-themed game this season. These games are designed to promote and educate attendees about sustainability and how they can get involved. The games will include sustainability-focused announcements, tabling sponsors, activities, contests and more. Currently scheduled sustainability games are:

  • Men’s Soccer – September 3
  • Women’s Soccer – September 26
  • Football – October 2
  • Women’s Soccer – October 24
  • Swim and Dive – January 15

New Sustainability Intern

With support of a new “Campus as a Classroom” internship program coordinated by the University Sustainability Office, NC State Athletics hired its first Athletics Sustainability Intern, Claire Henson. Claire is a senior in Textile Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science. In addition to being the Athletics Sustainability Intern, she is an Engineering Ambassador, NC State Steward and Wilson College of Textiles Centennial Scholar. Claire’s role in athletics is to focus on the development of the Sustainable Wolfpack initiative in all sports and sporting facilities.
