GoTriangle and SmartCommute@rtp, representing local and regional transit, recognized several NC State staff for their contribution to alternative transportation. Among the recipients were Tom Karches, Office of Information Technology for his long-time commitment to riding the bus to work and his unicycle to his office, Steve Carlton, Division of Public Safety for promoting awareness and safety of walking, bicycling and other forms of transportation and Tom Cook, Ann Hartell, Joe Huegy and Jud Lawrie from the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) for their research and technical assistance toward improving public transportation. Torsha Bhattacharya, Transportation Planner/Wolftrails Manager for NCSU Transportation presented the awards and noted that NCSU continues to be recognized as one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters in the Triangle.
