When it comes to the development of more efficient energy use, the space age isn’t just coming. The ship has landed.
With $4.5 billion from the federal stimulus package designated for improving and modernizing the country’s electrical distribution system, N.C. State University and Triangle-area companies in the energy business are eager to develop a “smart grid.” Such a step would one day integrate various forms of energy and make for more efficient use. As an example, a house with solar panels would send excess power generated by them back to the general grid.
