NC State Grounds Services Recognized for Excellence

NC State Grounds Services has earned an Honor Award as part of the 2022 Green Star Awards competition from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS).

The NC State Grounds Services team accepted the Honor Award in
Louisville, Kentucky during the 2022 School of Grounds Management Annual Conference of October 2022.

PGMS’s Green Star Awards Competition is a national award program that recognizes outstanding landscape design, construction and maintenance. NC State was one of 6 campuses honored nationwide in the University and College Grounds (mid-size) category.

NC State’s commitment to increasing the use of sustainable equipment was also a factor in the selection process. Gas-powered 2-cycle equipment, backpack blowers and pruners are being replaced with electrical equipment. Grounds Services has also invested in several all-terrain electric vehicles and mowers.

“This award is the result of the hard work, dedication and collaboration of not only Grounds Services, but the entire Facilities Division,” said Jeff Del Pinal, a program manager for Grounds Services. “I am proud of the effort that has gone into achieving this recognition in making our campus landscape safe, functional and usable, and aesthetically pleasing for the entire campus community.”

This is the third overall Honor Award Grounds Services has received from PGMS, having been recognized for their work at the Gregg Museum of Art & Design and at The Point. The university also holds national sustainability-related certifications from Tree Campus USA, Bee Campus USA  and has also just earned a Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
