Wolfpack Honored At City Of Raleigh Environmental Awards

An NC State program, a student start up company and a student textile designer received recognition at the City of Raleigh’s 2019 Environmental Awards.

NC State’s Wolf Pack-N-Give program won the waste reduction category. During student move out each spring, this program diverts more than 95,000 pounds of reusable goods and recyclable materials from the landfill. The program is coordinated by Waste Reduction and Recycling, with the support of University Housing, TROSA Inc. and the Feed the Pack Food Pantry.

Reborn Clothing Company, a company started by NC State students Emily Neville and Carly Kvietok, won the Jury’s Choice Award. Reborn upcycles used textiles into clothing and accessories.

Graduate student Carly Palmer of the College of Textiles won the Trashion Competition, which challenges entrants to design an article of clothing from materials that were once destined for the landfill. Palmer created clothing lines for men and women out of carpet samples that were found in a dumpster. Also, first-year College of Textiles student Brooklyn Franke received honorable mention.

The annual Raleigh Environmental Awards are hosted by the City’s Environmental Advisory Board and Office of Sustainability.
