Climate impact presentation and discussion to address NC State’s greenhouse gas inventory and emissions.

The University Sustainability Office will present the first S.E.E. NC State Series of the 2009-2010 academic year September 2nd in the Talley Student Center Ballroom (space change due to demand). The discussion and presentation will focus on the climate impact of NC State and the recently released Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory, a first for the university.

The inventory will be used to develop a Climate Action Plan (CAP) that will help guide NC State towards climate neutrality. Among peer institutions, the inventory found that NC State’s emissions were comparable with some environmentally conscious East Coast schools and are in line with current trends, said Jeff Hightower, director of utilities infrastructure.

Hightower will discuss his method for tabulating the GHG Inventory and what impact this baseline figure has for the main, Centennial and Centennial Biomedical campuses. Lindsay Batchelor, Program Coordinator for the University Sustainability Office, will then address how campus can get involved in helping to reduce NC State’s carbon footprint.

WHAT: Climate Impact Presentation & Discussion
WHEN: Weds. Sept. 2nd
TIME: 1:30 – 3:00 pm
WHERE: Talley Student Center – Ballroom
WHY: With the inaugural release of it’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory earlier this month, NC State took a big first step in efforts to reach climate neutrality. The Inventory acts as a benchmark by which the university will mark progress towards reducing our emissions. These steps will be laid out in the Climate Action Plan (CAP).

AGENDA:
1:30 – 1:35 pm – Overview of sustainability at NC State
1:35 – 2:05 pm – GHG Inventory presentation, given by Jeff Hightower, Director of Utilities Infrastructure
2:05 – 2:20 pm – CAP presentation, Lindsay Batchelor, Program Coordinator, University Sustainability Office
2:20 – 3:00 pm – Open Discussion, moderated by David Dean, Outreach Coordinator, University Sustainability Office
There will be plenty of time for Q&A after the GHG presentation, so come prepared with suggestions and solutions for lowering our environmental impact.
