Transportation
On a thriving university campus, people are on the move. From work to class and everywhere in between, students, faculty and staff travel to, from and around campus. Every year, campus sustainable transportation options grow, reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions while creating a more pedestrian-friendly and less congested campus.
Alternative Transportation
NC State aims to reduce traffic congestion, which creates a more pedestrian and bike-friendly campus through the campus bus system, bicycling and pedestrian commute programs, carpool and vanpool incentives, park and ride locations, car sharing services and a discounted regional bus pass. Learn more
University Vehicles
Fleet Services, which supplies and services state-owned vehicles for the university, offers alternative fuel vehicles to reduce emissions, vans and buses to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, and a car washing service that recycles 80 percent of wash water.
NC State University welcomes employees and students using electric vehicles. Note that all stations require a ChargePoint Card or a ChargePoint Mobile App for your Smartphone. Click here for more information regarding electric charging stations including a location map to find your closest charging station.
Drive smarter to reduce miles traveled, fuel consumption and emissions at NC State and beyond by using the following tips:
- Slow and Steady: Drive within speed limits and change speeds gradually.
- Lighten the Load: Only carry what is needed and avoid rooftop cargo.
- Optimize Routes: Plan ahead to avoid traffic and take the quickest route.
- Combine Trips: Reduce overall miles driven and trips taken through planning.
What You Can Do
1. Ride the Wolfline or a regional/local bus for easy travel to and through campus.
2. Ride a bike or walk as part of an active campus commute.
3. Ride in a carpool or vanpool to save gas and money while also reducing pollution.
