Change a Life Without Leaving Campus

The number one way to a better, more sustainable society is to get involved, and you don’t have to go far to give back in a way that makes a difference. Here are few campus-related ways to give:

Donate blood. Just a single pint of donated blood could save three lives. Service NC State and Homecoming are among the major campus blood drives, but there are often other blood drives nearby if you wish to donate at other times during the year.

Donate food. Feed the Pack Food Pantry is open to members of the Wolfpack who are experiencing hunger or food insecurity. You can donate food or volunteer.

Donate stuff. Let’s face it – most of us have more than what we need. And some of us even have more than what we want. So the next time you’re about to throw something out, consider donating reusable items to a local thrift store or charity.

Donate your time. Join a student service organization or sign up for one-day service events like Martin Luther King Jr. Service Challenge and Service Raleigh.

Donate your break. Ok, so this one may take you off campus but likely to some pretty cool places. Alternative Service Break is a unique service-learning experience in which students engage in direct service to a community, while being immersed in the culture and customs of that community. Teams are led by student team leaders and accompanied by faculty advisors. Throughout the trip, team members participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and reflective activities to enhance their service experience.

Take time to think about your interests – what you have compassion for or really enjoy doing. Then, find a way to connect your passions with a need on campus or in the community. You’ll find fulfillment while making your community a better place.
