Innovate for Sustainability: Join NC State Make-A-Thon

Are you ready to be a part of something big and make a difference in the world?

NC State Make-A-Thon is an annual event that provides an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills while addressing various sustainability challenges. Whether it’s about water, waste, climate change or resiliency, the solution is in your hands.

NC State Make-A-Thon is a collaborative ideation experience. Guidance and support from campus and the community will be available throughout the competition.  Students will also work with others from colleges across campus, providing a wide range of perspectives and skills.

The interdisciplinary approach of NC State Make-A-Thon allows for more comprehensive and holistic solutions that take into account not only technical feasibility but also economic and social impact.

NC State Make-A-Thon is an innovation competition. Teams pitch their ideas to judges from the community and local companies, science-fair style. Yes, there are prizes up for grabs – $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place.

All undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to participate.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to join the ranks of previous winners, such as the team that designed a network of smart composting bins on campus or the team that developed an app that connects grocery stores with food-based charities to reduce food waste.
