Get In Gear for Bike Month

May is National Bike Month and the perfect time to try pedal-powered transportation.

NC State Staff Senate will be hosting a Lunch and Learn event to discuss biking and other alternatives to driving on Tuesday, May 17 from noon – 1 p.m. Sign up for the Zoom link and more information.

On Friday, May 20 NC State Transportation will celebrate National Bike to Work Day with a “pit stop” for cyclists near the Memorial Belltower from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. The university’s event, which will include snacks and giveaways, is one of several in the Raleigh area.

“We are really excited to support bicycling as a sustainable transportation option on campus and in the community,” said Carolyn Caggia, a transportation demand manager with NC State University Transportation.

GoTriangle and the City of Raleigh are also hosting numerous biking events throughout the month, including a social ride through Dorthea Dix Park. Participants are welcome to bring their own bike or to use a free city e-bike. Sign up and bring a helmet and water.

As a Bicycle Friendly University at the Silver level, NC State offers a number of benefits to cyclists, including alternative commuter benefits for students and employees, multipurpose trails, bike racks on all Wolfline buses and bike locker rentals. Bicycle repair classes and campus maintenance stations are also available for students.
