Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Zeta Sorority and Sigma Chi Fraternity were awarded the Most Sustainable Chapter award during the annual NC State Greek Life Awards on October 20.
The chapters received the recognition for launching a collaborative recycling initiative that encouraged first-year students living on Central Campus to “Go Green” and recycle. As a result, the chapters collected more than 50 bags of recycling.
The winning chapters also completed service projects such as litter cleanup on Hillsborough Street and Greek Court, packaging meals through Stop Hunger Now, volunteering at the Salvation Army soup kitchen and collecting school supplies for children.
Chapters that have minimized their environmental impact while maximizing their positive impact on society are considered for the Most Sustainable Chapter Award, which was first awarded in 2013.
