Change Your State Launched

Change Your State, a new awareness campaign for NC State, has been launched. The first-year goal is a 5% reduction in electricity demand on campus. Reaching the goal will save the university $1 million and avoid 7,175 metric tons of carbon from being released into the atmosphere.

The campaign launches in October as part of NC State’s support of National Energy Awareness Month. In addition, the university is planning a full day of energy-related activities for Campus Sustainability Day on October 20. Notable happenings include an ‘Energy Rush’ of residence halls and installation of a solar thermal water system at the Carmichael Complex.

“By doing quick and simple things our campus community can have a huge impact on the university and the environment. With the rising costs of energy it is important we all ‘do one thing’ to help preserve the integrity of N.C. State,” said David Dean, outreach and communications coordinator for sustainability.

Change Your State was originally proposed by Lynn Ennis’ MBA Creativity Class during the spring 2010 semester. Over the summer, Energy Management and the University Sustainability Office worked with a variety of campus departments to develop the logo and key messages.
