With a Gold rating, NC State ranks in the top third of the more than 250 institutions with a current STARS rating for sustainability.

In 2016, NC State received a Gold rating in Sustainability Tracking Assessment, and Reporting System (STARS).

Recognized by the Princeton Review as a Green College in 2012 – 2015. In 2008, NC State scored 90 out of 99 points in The Princeton Review’s annual “Green College” rankings

NC State receives 2014 national APPA Sustainability Award

NC State receives 2013 Raleigh Environmental Stewardship Award and several members of the NC State community won City of Raleigh Environmental Awards awards in 2012 – 2015.


NC State University Dining is 2014 bronze recipient in the National Association of College and University Food Services’ Sustainability Awards

NC State receives 2014 Award of Excellence from the Utility Savings Initiative of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

NC State University Dining wins Food Service Director’s 2013 Grand Goldie Award for its sustainability program, My Roots are at NC State.

NC State was honored with 2012 Golden Mode awards in Employee Commuting and the Smart Commute Challenge from GoTriangle, a partnership of public transportation agencies and organizations.

Triangle Clean Cities Coalition Stakeholder Excellence Award for petroleum displaced (38,000 gallons) in 2014.

NC State received a “B” on the Sustainable Endowments Institute Green Report Card and NC State awarded C. Peter Magrath University Community Engagement Award from the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) for leading a partnership with Jacksonville, NC that restored Wilson Bay.
