Energy Management

NC State Energy Managementā€™s mission is to cost-effectively manage energy resources purchased and consumed by the university.

This unit tracks energy and water consumption, always seeking more efficient ways to use the minimum possible energy while maintaining comfort level for building occupants and enabling the university to achieve its mission.

Guided by aĀ Strategic Energy Management Plan, Energy Management deploys energy efficiency and renewable energy technology that Ā reduce energy and water consumption. Ā Other Energy Management goals include:

  • Achieve a 30% reduction in building energy consumption by 2015 against theĀ 2003 baseline.
  • Achieve a 50% reduction in building water consumption by 2015 against theĀ 2002 baseline.
  • Improve energy data management capabilities and make data driven decisionsĀ utilizing enhanced energy data.
  • Train and educate staff and building end-users to properly operate and maintainĀ building systems in an energy-efficient manner.
  • Ensure a cost-effective and reliable energy supply by developing businessĀ scenarios and strategies for diversifying fuel sources.
  • Evaluate utility financial structures that create incentives for saving energy.
  • Implement green standards and practices for information technology andĀ computing.

Progress toward these goals are tracked by key performance indicators, includingĀ utility cost, usage and demand, and reported inĀ theĀ Strategic Energy and Water Annual Report.
