EPA Energy Star Smackdown

Tucker Residence Hall at NC State is in the middle of an energy conservation cage match with Morrison Hall at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Tucker was selected as one of 14 buildings nationwide to take part in the EPA Energy Star National Building Competition. The only other university in the competition hails from Chapel Hill. The building who works off the most energy waste will be recognized in a ceremony on Oct. 26th.

Even though both contestants came into the competition carrying a heavy load they have already begun to trim down the waste. At the mid-point weigh-in Morrison has reduced energy 19% to Tucker’s 1.3%. Team Tucker, which consists of members of Housing and Energy Management, feels certain the Wolfpack is saving more energy in the later rounds.

Scott Braswell, of University Housing said, “Tucker might be down, but definitely not out. The mark of a true champion is his capacity to endure. Tucker has a few tricks left up its sleeve and I would not count it out.”

Only time will tell who is ready to be crowned champion.
