10 Healthy Snacks You Can Make

Are you feeling sluggish and hungry but don’t have the time to whip up a healthy meal?  Are you totally over expensive snacks that involve strange seeds that can only be found in a specialty store? Your body needs the right kind of fuel for the most sustainable you. Here are 10 healthy snacks so simple to make that they’re perfect for making in a residence hall room. Got a sweet tooth? Some of the recipes below are healthier takes on sweet treats.

  1. Bagel with ricotta and strawberries. Tired of the same toasted bagel with cream cheese? Take your bagel game up a notch by using fresh ricotta cheese and locally-grown strawberries (and don’t forget to drizzle with honey).
  2. Chocolate-Hazelnut Banana Crackers. Seriously, it’s as easy as it sounds. Grab the crackers of your choice, some chocolate-hazelnut spread, and slice some bananas for an easy (and delicious) snack on-the-go.
  3. Healthy Sweet and Salty Trail Mix. A little sweet and a little salty, this snack mix can also be made exactly how you want it but it is delicious as-is. Make it ahead of time for on-the-go healthy snacking.
  4. Orange Banana Smoothie.  All you need is a blender, fresh fruit and five minutes.
  5. Tomato Toast with Basil Cream Cheese. Sounds like something you’d buy in a restaurant — expect you can make it in your residence hall room.
  6. Coffee Cup Quiche. Just need a mug, a few ingredients and a microwave for this healthy breakfast or brunch snack.
  7. Spiced Chickpeas. Instead of turning to that bag of popcorn, try this simple protein-packed recipe.
  8. Protein Puppy Chow. Do you want a sweet, protein-packed treat that has nothing to do with puppies and everything to do with feeling like a kid again? This is the snack for you.
  9. Peanut Butter Silk Pie Dip With Greek Yogurt. Sounds complicated, right? Nope. Four ingredients and ready in five minutes. Perfect with apple wedges (especially now that apples are in season!)
  10. Microwave Potato Chips. Because sometimes you just want chips, right? These are super crispy and made without frying or oil! You can do the same thing with kale. Try this recipe for kale chips.

Pick up some of these ingredients on campus at the weekly Campus Farmer’s Market, which showcases locally-grown, seasonal food from local farmers.
