A team consisting of an energy manager and 2 energy analysts are charged with identifying and reporting energy savings opportunities at NC State. The positions are funded through the ARRA through the UNC General Administration in Chapel Hill. To date, the team has found savings on Centennial Campus that add up to more than $1.75 million with a simple payback of less than 1 year in most cases. The team will continue searching for opportunities across the University armed with temperature sensors, light meters, binoculars, and laptops to calculate all of the savings.
The hunt continues through March 2012, when they will have completed more than 50 detailed energy audits, outlining savings through temperature setbacks, lighting upgrades, operational changes, building automation scheduling, and equipment utilization enhancements that will save the University 10% to 15% in energy consumption.
